Back in April, Fil-Am New Yorkers Deirdre Levy and AJ Lavilla had an open call for artists to submit coloring sheets to be compiled into a free zine for the community.
Here's an excerpt from the back cover:
“Our project began in March 2020 with the goal of helping those struggling with grief and mental health during the COVID19 pandemic. We have revived this coloring book project with the theme ‘Stronger Together’ in honor of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month & Mental Health Awareness Month, with the intention of stopping Asian hate and empowering our communities to work together."
For my contribution to the coloring book, I chose undersea creatures from my “El Nido” series, inspired by a childhood vacation in the Philippines.
“Stronger Together” coloring sheet inspired by the wildlife of El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
Other artist pages are by @ajlavilla, @casielle.jpg, @leeleeluvjoyart, @btanart, @cassandrabalbas, @_coldgirl, @jasonnaylor, @loisthelittleart, @madvaillan, @questionmarks_official, @art_by_eyebrows, @saviorelmundo, @erctigz @zehh_ree_naa, @marktorrespaints, @the_art_of_calibird, and @sfgrajales.
I hope you find coloring these pages as calming and therapeutic as it was for me to design my submission. And feel free to share photos of your finished masterpieces. I always love seeing your art!
